Artist Profile: Cathy Cooksey

She has always dabbled with her talent and considers it a gift. In 2000, Cathy decided to pursue a career in art. She bagan to explore several styles and has settled into Realism Painting. Cathy says, "I enjoy Realism because I like to recreate things the way they are. I like to bring the viewer as close to being there as possible." Her technique allows her to specialize in several fields, including landscapes and portraits. Cathy has already won several Best in Show ribbons. Cathy was commissioned to do custom paintings for Colonel Ronnie Bowman - Former Commissioner of Public Safety, Steve Wilson - Walker County Sheriff, Tina and Logan Lanier - Walker County Deputy Sheriff, and Warden of the Walker Correctional Institute, and murals for several area cities. Cathy says, "I enjoy doing custom paintings for people. It is a joy to see their faces when I hand them a painting of their children, grandchildren, of their homeplace. These paintings will hold their special memories indefinitely. They often become family heirlooms. It is a wonderful gift to be a part of that." Cathy has received letters from George Pataki - Governor of New York, Nathan Deal and Max Cleland - United States Congressmen, and George W. Bush - President of the United States; all these letters have been compliments regarding her WE WILL NEVER FORGET - SEPTEMBER 11, 2001. She has had work exhibited in the United States Capitol , the Georgia State Capital and numerous galleries throughout the Southeast.
